He has not become the CEO because he works for the company for a long time, or because he has done some great things for it, but the only reason is because is has always been the company himself. The IPO was at 06-26-2014 with a set share price at $24. The first 4 days it spiked and double while trading at $50 already. There it found some round number resistance due to early buyers taking big profits. On the chart below you can see it fading almost back to $35. Which still would have been a great profit from the initial price at $24. In August it gradually got back near the top around $50, but this time it couldn’t get that high. Again it dipped to under $40 and found some solid support with very low trading volume as well.
In the end of September it started to gain some volume again and the price soon started to get back up as well. When it managed to break through $50 as former resistance it had some following days with good gaps at the open. With almost no hesitation it got up to $70 and again found some resistance there, together with fading trading volume too.
The second half of September, in the run-up to the new HERO4 announcement it started breaking out of the $70 resistance level and spiked up to $90 in just a few days.
As seen from the price development $GPRO has the ability to make big gains in one day. The company only has 126.01 million shares outstanding. For a company with this much interest in the overall market and among institutions that is a very low float which helps it to make big gains in a short period of time. But be aware, the opposite will be true as well when the interest for this stock is fading it can drop very quick with big intra-day losses.
